The Growth Machine Portfolio
The tool has two axis:
- Maturity of the innovation
- Type of innovation
In the book i explain that there are three types of innovation:
- Optimize the core business
- Renew the core business
- Future Growth
To go from idea to scale companies should implement an end- to -end innovation process, which i explain in the chapter Corporate Venture Building. The portfolio tool connects these two important dimensions in innovation so the leadership team can understand how their innovation portfolio is performing and if it is well balanced among the three types of innovation. This is important to connect with the innovation ambition. For instance the goal of the company is to create disruptive innovations, but the teams pivot int0 almost core business innovations, the leadership team will not achieve its original goal.
